The Beginning of a New Decade
Merriam-Webster dictionary defines the word Decade as a group or set of ten. A phrase such as, teaching for over a decade or the decade of the twenties are examples of how the word is used.
This week I have heard much discussion on when a decade begins and ends. Here are the two camps of thinking:
*2009 – 2019 is a decade
*2010 – 2020 is a decade
There are good arguments for both, not sure still! All I know for sure is it’s a period of 10 years.
All of this discussion of a new decade did have me stop and think about all that has happened in the past 10 years. Take your age, deduct 10 and take your kids ages and deduct 10! Wow, how have things changed, not only for yourself, but for your kids! My youngest was 11 ten years ago and is now 21 and is a Senior in College. CRAZY – how did this happen! The number 10 is such a big number! It goes by so fast. When I reflect on the past decade, there have been some of the saddest and heart breaking moments along with many happy and joyous moments too! A decade ago, Suzy’s Swirl was non-existent! Now look at us, we intend to be here for many more decades to come!
I think it’s normal that we all take a moment to reflect on the past decade! I hope this next decade has more joy, happiness and love in it for all of us!
