It’s hard to believe it’s time to send our kids back to school! Where has the summer gone? Did you get everything done that you wanted? Did you take time to read a good book? Did the kids have time to run through the sprinkler and go to the pool? Don’t worry if you didn’t get it all done! There’s still time, summer doesn’t officially end until Monday, September 23rd!
As the new school year begins and you are out purchasing new backpacks, notebooks, pens and crayons, take a moment to talk to your kids about Kindness and Respect. Kindness and Respect can be shown in so many ways during the school year and really anytime of year! Let’s remind our kids:
Say a simple Hi to other kids waiting at the bus stop with you! Everyone is feeling a little nervous or anxious on the first day of school!
Say Good Morning to the Bus Driver! This is not an easy job – be respectful!
Don’t be afraid to be the first one to raise your hand in class! Let your voice be heard!
Don’t judge anyone for what they wear or look like! We are all unique individuals!
It’s ok to be an Athlete and be in Drama too!
Ask the new kid in your class to sit with you at lunch!
Remember please and thank you’s!
Really let your Mom and Dad know how school is going! They really are the most trusted people to bring your highs and lows of the day to!
School can be both an amazing place to learn and make long lasting friendships! School can also be a place of bullying and hatred! Students all get so busy right off the get go with sports, band, drama club and the list goes on and on. Keeping the lines of communication open is so important! If I could do anything different when my kids were in High School, I would have put all of the cell phones away at night! Let them take a break from all of the outside noise! Maybe you can give it a try! Let me know if works!
