Since I was a little girl I have always loved St. Patrick’s Day! I am Irish, my Grandmother was a Sheehan and we have been able to trace our lineage to Ireland! The holiday is filled with good food, green beer and good fun! More importantly it’s the day I got engaged!
It’s hard to believe but, 39 years ago Joe and I got engaged on St Patrick’s Day! Joe and I had always tried so many times to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day together, it just never happened! Joe had been working in the City of Chicago for many St. Patrick’s Days and somehow someway always got caught up in the celebrations of the day! LOL!! This day, March 17th 1984 he was home! I was working for Carson’s in Lombard, it was snowing crazy hard and my parents were flying home from Europe! That evening in the parking lot of an Italian Restaurant Joe gave me my special Irish Good Luck Charm – my engagement ring! That was the perfect St. Patrick’s Day ever!
This past week ends on a happy note for me and I hope for you too! I hope you have all enjoyed the generous servings of corned beef and cabbage and washed it down with a pint of your favorite beer! Don’t forget about the Irish Soda Bread – it’s delicious toasted and smeared with butter! I’ll leave you with this:
