KIndness

The dictionary definition of Kindness is; the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate. Kindness is such a simple act. It is something we are taught at a very, very young age. I can hear my parents telling me, be kind to your teachers, be kind to your friends, be kind to your grandparents and be kind to strangers! I always thought and still do, that I don’t have to be best friends with everyone, although, I do need to be kind and considerate.

Obviously something has shifted in our culture to question kindness. We all saw kindness being questioned this week on social media when Ellen DeGeneres was sitting next to former President George W. Bush at a baseball game. How can two people with such different points of view, appear to be enjoying a baseball game next to each other? Ellen DeGeneres answered this question so eloquently. We are all different, we all have different values and ideas and we don’t all have to agree on everything! Despite our differences, we should be kind to each other!

In today’s world, I think, we need to bring back Kindness! Our culture needs to reminded about the importance of being friendly, generous and considerate. Again, such a simple act. We can still have our opinions and differences and at the same time, be kind to each other!

Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible. Dalai Lama
