Hello Friends - can you believe today is July 31st, the last day of July! For so many in our area the beginning of July started with such heartache and tradgedy! Many took a pause, took time to heal and process, many of us are still trying to come to grips with all that's happening around us! Part of the healing process is trying to figure out our new normal and not lettting fear overcome all that is beautiful and wonderful around us!
I have been trying to be more mindful to the sights and sounds of summer! Really seeing all of the kind people around me, stopping to take a long deep breath to smell all of the beautiful flowers that are blooming and listening to all of the sounds of summer! I've enjoyed walking up and down the sidewalks of Lake Bluff, Lake Forest and McHenry and seeing all of the families and friends gathering together! The impromptu stop for a quick coffee with a friend, a nice lunchbreak with the bonus of some fresh air and the families getting together to listen to the night time bands playing awesome tunes under the stars, these are a few of the summertime sights and sounds!
This morning I came across this quote from Dukes Women's Basketball Coach Kara Lawson, this is what she said: "I will get in these modes where I'm just like, I just need to get through this, and then everything will be good. It can be as simple as once we get through the holiday season to January, stuff's going to settle. Then gosh darn January comes, and it doesn't settle. It never settles. Understanding that we can handle it is a way to free ourselves, believes Lawson, who says, we learn to handle hard better." "The mental shift for me was super helpful."
Coach Lawson's words really hit home for me! For quite sometime now I've been of that midset, let's just through this summer and things will settle down once school starts and low and behold it doesn't settle! If I reframe that thought, enjoy the summer, stay present and know that I can handle the hard, I think I will feel more settled! After all, I think we are all stronger then we give ourselves credit for!
I hope we are all able to relax and enjoy these next few weeks of summer! Let's all try to stay present, not get to ahead of ourselves and know we will be able to handle hard better! Don't forget Suzy's Swirl is here for you too! Did you know that if you spell the word Stressed backwards is spells Desserts!!! This week is Suzy's Swirl 10th Birthday!
